Wearable technology for hazardous remote environments: Smart shirt and Rugged IoT network for forestry worker health

This paper introduces the architecture and details of our wearable IoT solution for workplace health safety in rugged outdoor environments. We focus on specific requirements defined by New Zealand forestry environment as it is industry with most fatalities highest accident rate Zealand. Neither consumer-level products nor professional wearables have been found to be suitable conditions. Furthermore, workplaces cannot rely existing networking infrastructure, due their remote nature, no permanent setup possible. describe Hakituri project which we integrate devices, networking, data analytics, a buddy system into novel monitoring worker safety. Our includes dynamic network set-up, conditions, contextual rule-based real-time alerts. A smart shirt carries sensors collecting personal from workers, while further environmental capture data. The set up communication unreliable explore variety setups achieve best quality outcomes domain.
